Why Do Men Batter Women?

In this century when we all talk of exploring mars and reaching help to the deep corners of Africa, is it not only surprising and also shameful that some men batter their wives? Whatever we say, we cannot deny that women are getting battered. A syndrome has also been names after this - Battered Women syndrome. Why should men beat women? Let us look at this barbarism.

Frustration must be one of the reasons. Do men enjoy taking out their frustration of career failures and problems on women? Or they are sadists? If they do not like their woman, they should separate. How can they be allowed to beat women? That is reprehensible and barbaric. How can an educated man beat a woman? What drives him to do that? Is their any profile of such men who do this?

What if the woman is not meek and retaliates. There will be bloodshed. Why a beautiful relationship reaches such depths is beyond my imagination and thinking. How society allows this. Why such men are not boycotted from the society? What is the problem with such men that they batter their woman?

As men, we are protectors of women and not supposed to beat them. Why do we men do it? In a survey in India, it was found that a majority of men who beat women come from highly educated class. This is more shocking. These men keep a mask of good behavior in society and beat the woman in the confines of their home. Please let all men decide that come what may, they will never ever batter their woman.

Improve Your Relationships

Relationships are complex things, but following these basics will help you make your relationships healthy and strong.

When in doubt, listen first and check to see if you have understood the other person by asking them questions. Often relationships go awry when people feel they aren’t being heard or understood and sometimes it’s important just to listen. You have to know what they want, not what you think is good for them. Listening is what helps us to find connection with each other. This also means you need to tell others what you really feel, think, and want. You can’t feel connected if you don’t voice these things.

Communicate simply when it is most critical that they hear you. Get clear in your own mind what kind of outcome you would like and try to state it in the most simple and specific terms. You will more likely be understood the more clear you can be, and often that means fewer words, not more. Sometimes repetition is necessary in getting through to someone what is really important to you.

Always show respect. Respect means listening, accepting a no when you are given one, not taking them for granted, being honest in your dealings with them, and not criticizing often or discouraging them. It is also important that you do not try to control others, and just as important that you show respect to yourself and ask that they treat you the same or be willing to walk away.

Know when it isn’t a healthy relationship. Just because you care about someone doesn’t mean you should be in a relationship with them at this time. They should be good for you, not addicted to anything, not controlling or abusive in any way, and make you feel secure and happy. It is not possible to make a relationship work with someone who doesn’t care about you, or who abuses a substance or you, so don’t try.

Seek to be good for others and don’t tear them down. People like to be with those who make them feel good and who are good for them. Lighten up and have fun together and your relationship will grow.

Arrange Marriage and Its Improtance

Arranged marriage (also called prearranged marriage) is a marriage arranged by someone other than the couple getting wedded, curtailing or avoiding the process of courtship. Such marriages had deep roots in royal and aristocratic families around the world, including Europe. Today, arranged marriage is still practised in South Asia,[1] and the Middle East to some extent.[2] Other groups that practice this custom include the Unification Movement (Moonies). It should not be confused with the phenomenon of forced marriage.

Arranged marriages are usually seen in Pakistani, Indian and African cultures, and are usually decided by the parents or a older family member.

The match could be selected by parents, a matchmaking agent, matrimonial site, or a trusted third party. In many communities, priests or religious leaders as well as relatives or family friends play a major role in matchmaking.

The pattern of arranged marriage can be employed for other reasons besides the formation of a promising new family unit. In such marriages, typically economic or legal reasons take precedence over the goal of selecting a well-matched couple. Though critics are not always specific, criticism of arranged marriage usually targets abuses such as forced marriage and child marriage.

The main variation in procedure between arranged marriages is in the nature and duration of the time from meeting to engagement.

Proponents of arranged marriage believe that individuals can be too easily influenced by the effects of love to make a logical choice.

Nikah:

Nikah is purely Islamic official wedding ceremony that usually takes place at the bride’s home. Nikah is attended by close family members, relatives, and friends of groom and bride. Usually, the men and women are made to sit separately, in different rooms, or have a purdah, or curtain, separating them.
Nikah-naama (document of marriage contract) is registered in Nikah. The Nikahnaama contains several terms and conditions that are to be respected by both parties (bride & groom). It includes bride’s right to divorce her husband. Nikahnaama specifies “Meher,” the monetary amount the groom will give the bride. Meher includes two amounts; one that is due before the marriage is consummated and the other that is a deferred amount given to the bride at a time to be determined. The Meher guarantees the bride's freedom within the marriage, and acts as the bride's safety net.
The fathers of groom and bride (Walis) act as witnesses to the wedding. If father is not available, the senior male, brother or uncle performs the ceremony. Islamic Imam (called maulana or maulvi in Urdu) reads selected verses from the Quran and waits for the Ijab-e-Qubul (proposal and acceptance) of wedding. Usually, the groom's side makes proposal and the bride's side conveys her assent. Maulvi and witnesses (gavah) take the Nikahnaama to the bride and read it aloud to her. She accepts the Nikahnaama saying 'qabool hai,' meaning 'I accept and signs it. The Nikah naama is then taken to the groom and read aloud to him. He accepts saying 'qabool kiya and signs the document. The Maulvi and witnesses (gavah) also do sign the Nikahnaama contract and the wedding becomes legal. The Maulvi recites the Fatihah, the first chapter of the Quran, and various durud, or blessings to mark the closing of Nikah ceremony

Rukhsati

(see off ceremony) takes place, when the groom and his family leave together with the bride. Usually Quran is held over the bride for blessings. The departure of the bride becomes a very emotional scene as she says farewell to the home of her parents and siblings to start a new married life.

Baraat (for boys) or Rukhsati (for girls)

is the main day of marriage. It kicks off with Sehra-bandi. The groom wears a sehra (a veil of flowers) from his residence. Family members of the groom present him gifts or salami (gift money). The reception of barat is organized by the bride’s family so it traditionally takes place in the bride’s home (hotels or marriage halls); tents may be set up to accommodate guests. The place is suitably and auspiciously decorated with lights for the festive occasion. The bridegroom starts out from his home in a form of procession on cars (traditionally on a decorated horse to the music of shenai (a shrill flute) and dholak (drums) with his family and friends. They are greeted by the bride’s family with flowers garland and rose petals.
What happens at reception of barat? It is customary for the bride's sisters and friends to stop the barat from entering the arena until a sufficient amount of cash is given to them. Other traditional rasams include doodh pilai (milk drinking), jooti chupai (hiding shoes). The bride traditionally wears a heavily embroidered red outfit along with jewelry while the groom wears sherwani with a sehra or turban. Food, sweets, pans are served afterwards in feast.

Baraat (for boys) OR Rukhsati (for girls)

Baraat or Rukhsati is procession of family, relatives, and friends of groom that accompany the groom to bride’s home for official wedding ceremony. Groom makes his way to the bride's home on a richly decked horse or in a car and “baraat” follows in different vehicles. Groom is given warm welcome by the bride’s family with flower garlands and rose petals. Family and relatives of the groom and the bride exchange glasses of juice or sherbet along with money. Guests are welcomed by the bride’s sisters by playfully hitting them with a stick wrapped and decorated with flowers.

Mehndi OR Rasm-e-Henna

Mehndi, or the Rasm-e-henna ceremony, typically takes place one or two days prior to the main wedding day. The event is traditionally held separately for the bride and the groom, and henna is symbolically placed on the couple's hands.

The groom's friends and family bring along sweets and henna for the bride, and the bride's family does the same for the groom. On the bride's ceremony the groom normally does not participate and similarly, on the groom's event the bride stays at home. Female guests are sometimes offered mehndi at the host's discretion.
A night before wedding, when bride dyes her hands with mehndi or hina. This is the night when groom's family brings bride's wedding dress to her house and bride family takes grooms' dress to his house. This event is very colorful and full of traditional songs and dances. Depending on family, this event could last more then one day. The first day at bride's place to put Henna on bride's hands and second day at grooms' to put Henna on his hands.

Mayoon is the very first ceremony

of Pakistani Wedding after the engagement. From this day on Bride is proscribed from groom's eyes till the day of marriage. Both sides celebrate this occasion at their own expense separately. Yellow color symbolizes the day of upton, the other name of mienu. To mold into the colors of upton, family and invited guests wear yellow garments. Starting of this day is with the recitation of Quran. After the religious formalities, family and friends bring the bride/groom for the ceremony. The friends and family sits in circle with their percussion equipments and sings through out the evening.
Mayoon is celebrated at the bride's house. Usually the bride's friends and close relatives get together at her house and they dance and sing, often accompanied by drum music. Generally the bride's family give bangles and sometimes clothes to her friends, depending on what the family can afford. The evening also usually includes a henna where the women put designs in henna on each others' hands. The mayoon can last up to late night. The bride usually wears a simple yellow Shalwar Kameez. Mayun is a custom of the bride entering into the state of seclusion eight to fifteen days before the wedding. She is made free of all the chores and errands during this time. The bride and groom are not allowed to see each other after the Mayun. The beautification rituals begin during this time

Pakistan, an Islamic country

located in South Asia and the Greater Middle East, has a great culture with rich customs. A Pakistani wedding is a great feast of fun, merriments, and celebrations. It is celebrated with great fervor. A Pakistani wedding is followed by several pre-wedding customs and rituals.
Some of the customs followed in Pakistani Shadi's have no foundation in Islam. However, the Pakistani culture has adopted those ceremonies and traditions from the Hindu culture. Wedding is the most important step of life, because two hearts become one.All the relatives are invited on this special event. Many weeks before wedding event opens the gate of hapiness and entertainment.

"Rasm-o-Riwaj" in Pakistani Shadi's:
1.: Mangni is the engagement ceremony that marks the formal engagement of couple. The small ceremony takes place in the presence of a few important members of would-be bride & groom’s family. Prayer and blessings for the couple are recited and the wedding date is decided in Mangni.

2.: Mayoun or Mayoon            (applying ubtan on bride’s face and body)
Mayun is custom of the bride entering into the state of seclusion eight to fifteen days before the wedding. She’s made free of all the chores and errands around the house. The bride and groom are not allowed to see each other after the Mayun; bride is not allowed to leave her house. The beautification rituals begin during this time.

Wedding Traditions in Pakistan

The wedding ceremony in Pakistan generally lasts for four days. As Pakistan is a Muslim majority country, the wedding rituals follow the Muslim patterns. On the first day, the family members of the bride and the groom dress in yellow and celebrate the upcoming festivity separately. The bride and the groom are not supposed to see each other from this day on.
A marriage is a contract between two families, a man and a woman, made in the presence of witnesses as well as the woman's guardian. It also involves the payment of a dower, the amount of which is agreed between the two parties and become payable by the husband at the time when the contract is made.
A marriage contract does not need to be written down in order to be valid. But the documentation is important, particularly these days in order to ensure that all future formalities are properly made.
In many Pakistani marriages, the wife may not be present when the actual contract is made. However, her father or guardian comes to her with two witnesses and asks her whether she gives him the (verbal) power of attorney(in presence of the two witnesses) to act for her in marrying her to the man concerned and whether she agrees to the amount of dower to be paid to her. When she has given him the power of attorney, he proceeds to complete the marriage contract.
Traditional Pakistani marriage celebrations lasts for four days.

Bridal Dresses are Very Important

Bridesmaid dresses are one of the most important parts of the wedding. Having ugly bridesmaid dresses can ruin practically everything, so it is important to use care in picking out the bridesmaid gown. A good bridesmaid dress contrasts nicely with the wedding dress, a simpler backdrop against which the beauty of the wedding dress can be seen, yet gorgeous in itself.

As a wedding planner, I always tell people that the bridesmaid dress is one of the most important things about the wedding, but often they don’t listen to me, and opt to buy cheap bridesmaid dresses, which eventually makes everyone unhappy.

Of course, the bridesmaid dresses aren’t really the most important part of the wedding, nor is the wedding dress itself. Really, the most important part of the wedding, besides of course the love shown before the bride and groom to be married, is the location. There is so much planning that goes into finding a location, and so many factors such as time of year, time of day, weather, the age and temperment of the guests, and countless other factors, that selecting bridesmaid dresses looks like a piece of cake in comparison.

Personally, I think that outdoor weddings are over-rated. Nowadays, most people have been dating for a long time before they get married, and the wedding is really more to celebrate with their friends and to sanctify their marriage in the eyes of their community, their country, and whatever god they believe in.

Talking to your wedding planner is always a good start. Most wedding planners have a good idea of what style of bridesmaid dress will complement the setting.

Another plus of an indoor wedding, is that there isn’t the chance of sudden downpour ruining everything, sending a miserable wedding party in soggy tuxedos and bridesmaid dresses scurrying inside before the wrath of the storm. Nothing will ruin your day like a sudden cloudburst, and its so much better to be safe. People will still be able to get outside in most places to enjoy a breath of fresh air, but they can always return inside where the climate controlled environment will ensure comfort for everyone involved

Shadi and honeymoon

A honeymoon is the traditional holiday taken by newlyweds (or between two people in an early harmonious period in a relationship) to celebrate their marriage in intimacy and seclusion. Today, honeymoons by Westerners are sometimes celebrated somewhere exotic or otherwise considered special and romantic.
History of Honeymooon:
Possibly the earliest reference to a honeymoon is in Deuteronomy 24:5 “When a man is newly wed, he need not go out on a military expedition, nor shall any public duty be imposed on him. He shall be exempt for one year for the sake of his family, to bring joy to the wife he has married.”
In Western culture, the custom of a newlywed couple going on a holiday together originated in early 19th century Great Britain. Upper-class couples would take a "bridal tour", sometimes accompanied by friends or family, to visit relatives that had not been able to attend the wedding. The practice soon spread to the European continent and was known as voyage à la façon anglaise (English-style voyage) in France from the 1820s on.
Honeymoons in the modern sense (i.e. a pure holiday voyage undertaken by the married couple) became widespread during the Belle Époque, as one of the first instances of modern mass tourism. This came about in spite of initial disapproval by contemporary medical opinion (which worried about women's frail health) and by savoir vivre guidebooks (which deplored the public attention drawn to what was assumed to be the wife's sexual initiation). The most popular honeymoon destinations at the time were the French Riviera and Italy, particularly its seaside resorts and romantic cities such as Rome, Verona or Venice. Typically honeymoons would start on the night they were married.
One of the more recent citations in the Oxford English Dictionary indicates that, while today honeymoon has a positive meaning, the word was originally a reference to the inevitable waning of love like a phase of the moon. This, the first known literary reference to the honeymoon, was penned in 1552, in Richard Huloet's Abecedarium Anglico Latinum.

Love Marriage and Its Improtance

A love marriage is a union of two parties based upon affection and a mutual attraction between the individuals. The term is opposite to arranged marriage and forced marriage.

It is argued that love marriages offer more independence and freedom as compared to arranged marriages where the girl/boy is chosen by the parents so there is pressure to conform to parental expectations like producing a male heir, taking part in family rituals and traditions, putting up with sisters-in-laws, contributing to family expenses etc. One of the usual questions against an arranged marriage is that how can you marry somebody you don't know. Knowing somebody before marriage allows partners to have better respect and understanding for each other's needs and desires. This way they are better adjusted in the marriage when they finally take their wedding vows.

Not all love marriages have happy endings. Sometimes discord arises even in love marriages. In the west girls who are fat find it difficult to find suitable dates. There is pressure on the women to conform to conventional male ideas of beauty where women have to be tall and slim with hourglass figures. These kinds of attitudes and perspectives have not only created the kinds of conditions which I described above but are also responsible for women suffering a lot of pain and rejection. Beauty contests and the popular Barbie doll with its model of a doll with supermodel's figure have been accused of reinforcing this mindset. These kinds of pressures would just increase as society gets more modern and technology advances. Then, would women who refuse to conform get left behind? This made me wonder for a moment that maybe society should switch back to arranged marriages from love marriages since this pursuit for perfection in beauty would increase as society changes. On the positive side all this has also led to the feminist movements in the west. Women have come out of the closet refusing to be mere sexual objects pandering to male ideas of beauty.
